Free dog adoptions help make room for more pets in need
ATLANTA, GA (April 17, 2026) — LifeLine Animal Project, which operates Atlanta’s public animal shelters on behalf of Fulton and DeKalb counties, is launching “Take ’Em Home Tuesday,” a new weekly promotion offering free dog adoptions every Tuesday, beginning April 21, 2026.
All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and a microchip—a value of more than $250—at no cost to adopters.
Longer days and warmer weather typically bring a surge in shelter intake. More pets are found roaming, and economic pressures and housing challenges often lead to an increase in owner surrenders. Starting this promotion earlier in the season gives dogs more time and more opportunities to find homes before shelters reach critical capacity.
Every adoption helps save not just one life, but the next one, too—by ensuring we have space for another animal in need.
“Some dogs don’t do well in a shelter environment. The longer they wait, the harder it gets,” says LifeLine Animal Project Spokesperson Timyka “Tiki” Artist. “Tuesday is the day we have to make the hardest decisions for dogs who aren’t thriving, so we’re making it the day the community can step in and help by adopting a dog for free.”
“Take ’Em Home Tuesday” is offered at all LifeLine shelter locations, which are open 11 am- 7 pm:
