Petco Love Stories: The Life-Changing Power of Adoption

Have you adopted a pet from a LifeLine shelter? We want to hear your love story about how your adopted pet has changed your life for the better! Thousands of adopters have shared their love story just like these with Petco Love since 2013. In doing so, they’ve helped shelters across the county, including LifeLine, win lifesaving funds for the pets in their care.

Love Changes Everything

The love that our community has for our shelter pets has saved countless lives over the years. But for some, the love that shelter pets give in return has been just as life-changing. To share the love, submit a Petco Love story about how your LifeLine adopted pet has changed your life. Let others know the heartwarming difference adopting a pet makes, which can earn LifeLine lifesaving funds! It’s an easy way to pay it forward for another pet in need.

Jessica & Cali's Story

Jessica adopted Cali from LifeLine in 2020 at a time when she needed her most. The COVID-19 pandemic hit all of us in a hard way, but especially for healthcare workers like Jessica. Jessica knew it was love at first sight when she first saw Cali’s adoption profile on LifeLine’s website. Cali brought instant joy and companionship to not only Jessica’s life, but the life of her other pet, a sulcata tortoise named Rocky! The two became unlikely, but fast friends.

A dog named Cali and her sulcata tortoise friend Rocky

Who will care for the caregivers? The answer, my friends, is our dogs. Some heroes wear brindle."

Cali has made a big difference in Jessica’s life, which she says helped her do the same for others while working in her profession. Later that year, Jessica reflected on the life-changing adoption and submitted a Love Story to Petco. Her heartwarming and unique tale was a winner among thousands of submissions! As a result, LifeLine was awarded a grant of $10,000 and we couldn’t be more thankful. Jessica and Cali’s story is a huge inspiration.

How To Share Your Love Story

Love Stories should focus on the ways your pet has changed your life for the better. Each submission is limited to 500 words or less and must include four supporting photos: one photo of your pet by him/herself, one photo of you or your family with your pet and two additional photos that help illustrate your story. You may also submit a video to further illustrate your Love Story. Remember, the best stories show how the love of your pet has changed YOUR life!

When completing your application, be sure to select our organization, LifeLine Animal Project, from the drop-down menu. We’ll verify your adoption, and your Love Story can qualify for a grant award. You can find us by searching for our name or Tax ID number in the drop-down menu on the application.
