Every year, LifeLine joins forces with organizations all over for a national Clear The Shelters movement, a nationwide pet adoption and donation initiative led by NBCUniversal. Over its ten-year run, it has facilitated more than 1 million pet adoptions, mobilized hundreds of shelters, and raised millions for animal welfare.
These few weeks in August serve as a spotlight on struggling shelters and a powerful push to find homes for pets in crisis. LifeLine has set a bold goal: get 100 dogs adopted into loving families specifically from our Community Animal Center (the “CAC”).
You can be the lifesaver these pups so desperately need and have a positive effect on our ability to help even more pets in need in Fulton and DeKalb Counties.

Why August Matters
The LifeLine Community Animal Center supports our open-intake shelters in Fulton and DeKalb Counties when they reach capacity by taking pets, even those with special behavioral or medical needs. However, with the extreme summer surge in intake, it is difficult to support the heavy demand.
In 2025, the average length of stay for a dog at the CAC sits at 42 days (around 6 weeks), though we have a dog who has been there for over 200 days.. While the CAC is a safe haven for these dogs, the longer they stay in a shelter environment, the more they are at risk for illness and mental decline. People tend to respond more urgently in the 11th hour when a dog is facing a euthanasia deadline in a municipal facility as opposed to a dog who is technically safe, but far from thriving after 200+ days.
It doesn’t have to be that way. Every adoption not only changes a life, it creates space for the next vulnerable animal to transfer to the CAC, IN ADDITION to the space it creates at the county shelter for the next pet waiting at its doors.

As of the publish date of this post, all of the dogs shown above have been in the care of the LifeLine Community Animal Center for 100 days or longer.
That’s why we truly mean #AnyDog that finds a home across LifeLine shelters will save more than just one life. National Visibility + Community Support = A Major Local Impact (Together we recently saved 300 dogs in just a matter of weeks!)
This August, your voice and your choice can make a difference. When a dog leaves our shelter for a loving home, we immediately have room for more. Let’s show up for LifeLine Community Animal Center, join the 100 Dog Challenge, and help Clear The Shelters, one adoption at a time!
