When Kash came into our care, he was terrified. He would huddle in the back of his kennel, refusing to make eye contact with anyone who would pass. He would hide behind the other dogs, hoping no one would notice him. We didn't know exactly what happened in his past, be we did know it wasn't good.
We have many different volunteer opportunities, from bottle-feeding kittens to washing dogs. However, our most popular program has been our Dog for the Day program! With our Dog for the Day program, volunteers can "check-out" a dog for the day and take them all over Atlanta! It's a great opportunity for our pups to gain exposure, while getting a quick reprieve from the shelter. And it's a fun day for our volunteers to socialize while giving back to Atlanta's homeless animals. Though we have many amazing volunteers, one volunteer has become our Dog for the Day guru and that's Elle Prescott! Elle takes her shelter favorite all over the city - from the Atlanta BeltLine to Bruster's to Glenwood Park. And because Elle has mastered the art of taking a "Dog for the Day", we thought we'd let her tell you all about her current shelter favorite.
We may be a bit biased, but we have some of the best volunteers around! From Dog for the Day adventures to making leashes out of climbing rope, our volunteers have come up with some pretty creative projects! View a few of our favorites below:
Live in a condo, apartment complex or town home? We've actually found that docile, medium-sized cats and dogs do really well in an apartment environment! Looking for a cuddle buddy that just wants to chill on the couch all day? Look no further than these apartment ready pets! (Please note, before adopting any pet, please check with your landlord or apartment complex to ensure they are pet friendly)
