Shelter Dog With a Job

Shelter Dog with a Job Header

Follow Otter's year-long journey from shelter pup to service dog.

Otter was born at our DeKalb County Animal Services location after his mom was found in DeKalb County as a stray animal. After evaluating several of the dogs in our care, we selected Otter as our very first Shelter Dog with a Job participant, based on his gentle temperament, patience and confident personality.

Otter is just your average shelter dog, who is on a journey to do something remarkable. Over the next year, we will be training Otter to be a service dog, which we will then donate to a loving family in need.

Rescued is our favorite breed.

60 animals come through our Atlanta shelters every single day, just like Otter. He's just your everyday, mixed-breed shelter puppy. But that doesn't mean he can't do amazing things. We believe that an animal's past shouldn't determine its future. And that any breed can become a service dog, even if that breed is rescued.
